Ready. Set. WRITE! 2014 Week Two

How I did on last week’s goals:

I fell a little behind on my word count, but that’s okay because I don’t think this first draft will take as many words (90k) as I thought! I’m at 75k now, and I’ll probably finish this week! Finished one book (The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater–loved it!) and started another (The Sweetest Dark by Shana Abe). The only thing I haven’t kept up with is blogging, so I need to work on that this week.

Goals for this week:

  • Finish my WIP!
  • Read over it and send it off to my beta readers
  • Write a new blog post
  • Finish The Sweetest Dark

A favorite line from my WIP:

Even if you are victorious, he will fall, his heart torn from his body.

The biggest challenge I faced this week:

Writing even though I wasn’t feeling well, and as always, making time in my busy stay-at-home mom schedule for writing!

Something I love about my WIP:

The blend of Irish & Norse mythology and how dark it’s become.

Yay for shorter wordcounts. Less to cut in the end, right? πŸ˜‰ Enjoy writing “THE END” this week!

So jealous that you’re going to finish this week! But I shall press on…

Love the line you gave us, and the blend of mythologies sounds so intriguing! Hope I get to read it one day πŸ™‚

75K is a drop in the bucket by the standards of my historical sagas! Although it’s a little on the long side by the standards of my shorter, more lightweight historicals. It’s all about writing a story at the length which naturally unfolds for it, not trying to force a book into a specific number of words or getting upset if it ends up longer or shorter than planned.

I knew you’d finish before me!
Also…for some reason I started at the bottom of your post and was like HEY that’s what Jessica’s book is about. *head desk* I open a bunch of blogs at once and then read comment….oops. But YAY!

Oh, wow! You’re so close! Fingers crossed you get oodles of writing time this week!

Congrats on just about being at ‘The End’. That’s fantastic! And Stiefvater- love her!

Ooo, a blend of Irish and Norse mythology? That sounds wonderful! Best of luck finishing your WIP this week, and I hope you get lots of positive feedback from betas!

Love that line, Jess! And that it’s getting dark–Yay!! πŸ™‚

I’m so excited to read the finished draft!!

Don’t worry if all your goals aren’t coming out like you want. You are still doing a lot of writing and getting things done. 70K words is nothing to sneeze at. Dust yourself out and look forward to a better week. πŸ™‚

Dark books are so much fun. Love the line from your story. Looking forward to hearing more in the coming weeks!

That is so odd… not sure why this website posted me twice. I believe the first comment was meant for another blog? Odd that it was posted here.

Admiring the persistence you put into your site and detailed information you present.

It’s good to come across a blog every once in a while that
isn’t the same old rehashed material. Wonderful read! I’ve bookmarked your site
