Ready. Set. Write! 2015 Week 2

How I did on last week’s goals:

So this was the busy week I was talking about: two birthdays, Father’s Day, and our anniversary. But on top of all that, my sweet 2 1/2 year old girl fell off the arm of our couch on to the hardwood floor and FRACTURED her collarbone! :(! She is so tough, though. She was hurting, but still smiling and taking selfies at the doctor’s office:

And she even played at her big brother’s birthday party:

But then she was pitiful when she got home :(:

But at least the birthday boy and their little brother had a great time:

The birthday boy!

The birthday boy!

As for my goals–I did manage to work on my next chapter, I didn’t finish another book, but I am reading one: AN EMBER IN THE ASHES. It’s so good I can’t put it down, and I’m so relieved it’s lived up to the hype around it! I was really looking forward to this one, and it’s been amazing so far.

I squeezed in some exercising even though it is BLAZING HOT OUTSIDE–high 90s and disgustingly humid.

I finished beta reading for my friend, and it was another book I couldn’t put down–I can’t wait until it comes out!

My goal(s) for this week:

1. Write another chapter on my WIP

2. Read another book

3. Help the kids with reading

4. Exercise at least 3 days

A favorite line from my story OR one word/phrase that sums up what I wrote/revise:

I like this line because it actually made my husband laugh out loud–which is always a confidence-booster ;).

His beard looks just like you’d imagine a beard of someone who regularly participates in Confederate battle reenactments to look.

The biggest challenge I faced this week:

Family fun and my poor baby breaking her collarbone!

Something I love about my WiP:

The characters–they all have really strong voices, and they’re a lot of fun to write.

Oh Noooooooooo! Poor girlie. My son broke his arm last month and it was so awful. Tons of tears, 95% mine. He was like your daughter, happy to play through the pain for the most part. You accomplished so much despite the setbacks, though! Better luck this week! They can’t break two bones in a row, right? That’s what I keep telling myself every time my son takes another spill.

I know! It was heart-breaking :(. I’m sorry your son broke his arm! That’d be awful :(. Is he all healed up now? And thanks–good luck to you, too this week!

Sorry to hear your daughter broke her collarbone. Broken bones aren’t fun, particularly when the person’s bones are still soft and developing. As my grandmother used to say, ‘It’ll get better before you get married,” even if that assumes everyone gets married.

Thanks, Carrie-Anne! She seems to be tolerating it well, though it’s still sad to see her have to go through that. She’s certainly handling it better than I would!

That’s too bad about your daughter’s collarbone. 🙁 Hope she’s feeling better! Good job getting some writing in even despite some of the challenges that cropped up this week. Good luck with this week’s goals!

    P. S. So happy to hear that AN EMBER IN THE ASHES is living up to the hype. I have a copy and can’t wait to read it!

    • Jessica Leake / June 22, 2015, 11:36 pm

Thanks, Jaime! She does seem better already–kids rebound so fast. I just finished AN EMBER IN THE ASHES, so I can safely say I recommend it!

Wow! Some eventful week! So sorry for your baby’s accident but she sounds like one tough cookie. 🙂 Hope you have an accident-free week! Good luck with your goals!

    • Jessica Leake / June 22, 2015, 11:37 pm

Thanks, Alison! I hope this week is less eventful, too :).

  • Erin Funk / June 22, 2015, 4:13 pm

Ouch! Your poor daughter! It’s a wonder you got any writing done at all with everything else you had going on. I’m excited to hear that AN EMBER IN THE ASHES is so good. I just bought it the other day and it looks amazing. Good luck with your goals this week, and I really hope your daughter is feeling much better soon. 🙂

    • Jessica Leake / June 22, 2015, 11:38 pm

Thanks, Erin! I know–such a painful spot for a break since they can’t do anything about it, but luckily she seems to feel better already. Just finished AN EMBER IN THE ASHES–it’s fabulous–highly recommend! 🙂

And OMG my POOR baby girl! I just want to hug her.

    • Jessica Leake / June 22, 2015, 11:39 pm

You’ve been a little busy ;). And I know! She looked so pitiful! She’s nearly backed to her usual self now though. 🙂

  • Karyne Norton / June 23, 2015, 4:08 pm

So sad! 🙁 Hope she feels better soon. Glad your busy week is behind you and hope you can get more writing done this week!

Thanks, ladies! She’s actually doing better already :). Good luck to you too!

  • Carrie / June 24, 2015, 7:40 am

Wow I am so impressed with both you and your daughter! Glad she is handling it so well and that you still managed to get so much accomplished 🙂 Love the line about the beard – I can totally picture it!

    • Jessica Leake / June 24, 2015, 12:41 pm

Thanks, Carrie! Hopefully I can keep it up this week :).

  • Leandra Wallace / June 24, 2015, 11:01 am

Oh, poor baby! That’s a big owie. We’ve been lucky so far, with nothing broken, thank goodness. Best of luck to you this week!!

    • Jessica Leake / June 24, 2015, 12:42 pm

Thanks, Leandra! I thought we’d been lucky, too! I’m told kids heal super quickly though, so at least she won’t have to deal with it for too long :(.
