How I did on last week’s goals:

As I’ve seen happen to many others participating in RSW, my goals had to change when I got comments back from my CP! This is on THE ORDER OF THE ETERNAL SUN–the second book in my Arcana series that I already turned into my editor. Luckily, I still have plenty of time to make edits on it, so I just turned in a draft to make deadline, and now I can take my time polishing it :).

I met my other goals by putting aside GONE WITH THE WIND briefly to read THE DARKEST MINDS–I missed that series somehow when it first came out, and now I’m obsessed. So, I’ll probably be reading book 2 of that series this week.

My goal(s) for this week:

1. Edit 5 chapters of ORDER OF THE ETERNAL SUN

2. Read another book

3. Help the kids with reading

4. Exercise at least 3 days

A favorite line from my story OR one word/phrase that sums up what I wrote/revise:

These are a few lines my CP highlighted while reading THE ORDER OF THE ETERNAL SUN as ones she liked–it’s a bit of sibling banter between the main character (Lucy Sinclair) and her older brother (Robert Sinclair):

I glance away. “Surely you don’t want to hear about all that. Tell me of officer’s training at Cambridge.”

“Shooting practice, marching, rigorous physical exercise. There. Your turn.”

“I believe this dance is about to end,” I say. I stare at the symphony and will them to cease playing.

The biggest challenge I faced this week:

Switching gears from one MS to another, but this is nothing new!

Something I love about my WiP:

With ORDER OF THE ETERNAL SUN, I loved being able to return to the same world as ARCANA, only with a focus on Lucy (the younger sister) instead. Lucy is caring and kind and completely obsessed with art and fashion, so it’s been fun being in her head.

Lucy sounds like a fun character and I love the name, but I’m biased, my 5yo is Lucy. Good luck this week!

Thanks, Christina! And I may be biased, too, but I love the name Lucy :).

Great excerpt – had me smiling. Switching gears is important, especially when edits are involved. Lucy sounds amazing, a fun character to write about.

      Thanks, Tonja!

It’s actually good to switch from one book to the other…at least that’s what we tell ourselves 🙂 Good luck this week!

    • Jessica Leake / July 27, 2015, 7:26 pm

I completely agree :). Good luck to you too!

Switching gears on manuscripts? I know nothing about that. 🙂 But actually I kind of like having two stories to work on at once. When I get stuck on one, the other seems to take over. And I already like this Lucy! She sounds fun. Good luck with your goals this week! Hope it’s a wonderful one!

    • Jessica Leake / July 27, 2015, 7:29 pm

I’m getting used to switching back and forth myself, and I agree with you–I kind of like it. Hope you have a wonderful week as well!

I love reading with my kids, and when they see you reading, they want to read more too. (At least that’s what I’ve been told.)

Good luck on your goals this week.

    • Jessica Leake / July 27, 2015, 7:30 pm

I love reading with mine, too! It’s so important :).

Love the excerpt, Jessica! I hear you on switching from one MS to another. I do this fairly frequently, but it’s definitely a challenge all the same. I’m happy to hear you’re enjoying THE DARKEST MINDS. I’ve actually had it on my shelf for ages now but still need to read it. I’ll have to get to it soon!

    Have a wonderful week! 🙂

    • Jessica Leake / July 27, 2015, 7:33 pm

Thanks, Jaime! I agree that’s it definitely a challenge. THE DARKEST MINDS was gathering dust on my shelves, too, so I highly suggest picking it up!! It’s SO engrossing and fast-paced (even though it’s not a small book).

I really enjoyed the lines you shared! I can see why your CP highlighted them. Switching gears between manuscripts is something I’ve always found difficult, so I totally get that. I’m always envious of people who can juggle more than one project at a time or can dive seamlessly into a new WIP. Good luck with your goals this week!

    • Jessica Leake / July 27, 2015, 7:34 pm

Thanks, Erin! I would never say I could dive seamlessly into a new work or even a different MS, but I do enjoy the challenge :). Good luck with your goals, too!

  • Katy Upperman / July 27, 2015, 7:59 pm

I can see why your CP highlighted those lines — I love them, too! I feel ya on switching back and forth between projects. It always takes me a few days to acclimate to different characters/setting/voice. Sounds like you’re doing great, though! Best of luck with your goals this week, Jessica!

LOVE the excerpt! I want to know more about this sibling relationship 🙂 Good luck on your goals and have a fabulous week!

  • Leandra Wallace / July 28, 2015, 11:52 am

I always love sibling relationships in books. =) Good luck on all your goals this week!

Love the excerpt. Keep knocking down the goals!
