Ready. Set. WRITE! Week Four

I was invited to participate in Ready. Set. Write! by my CP and best friend Mandie, which makes sense since we’ve already been checking in with each other on our WIP goals. It’s been so helpful have some accountability and encouragement, and that’s what Ready. Set. Write! is all about–writers encouraging one another this summer to meet their goals. This year, it’s hosted by Katy Upperman, Jamie Morrow, Alison Miller, and Erin Funk. Check out their blogs for more information and be sure to link up each week.

How I did on last week’s goals:

I finished reading & critiquing my CP’s WIP, which I just loved. She has some seriously beautiful lines, and the whole thing is set at an aquarium in FL.

I started getting feedback on my own WIP, and I began edits on it.

I didn’t finish Ignite Me because I read Howl’s Moving Castle instead–I loved it! I love Miyazaki’s films, but I had somehow never read Howl’s Moving Castle. Sophie & Howl are not as noble as they are in the film, and they’re even funnier.

I didn’t get the copy-edits for Arcana yet, but I expect them this week.

Goals for this week:

Finish edits on new WIP and send it to my agent

Read Ignite Me

Work on copy-edits for Arcana if I get them

A favorite line from my WIP:

(This is one that my CP picked out in her notes)

My eyes flew open, and I watched the hybrid choke the life from me. I watched my legs continue to kick to no avail. I was above it all; looking down upon the carnage like a bird. My body was lit up like the sun, but the hybrid was darkness itself. His body was smoke, black and fathomless. But in the very center, was a pulsing red spot. I was drawn to it as I was drawn to the door. The arms of my body had no strength left, but this form, this floating ghostly form, had limitless power. I reached into the very core of his chest and grasped the red energy. It beat against my hand like a frightened bird, and I squeezed, crushing it in my fist.

The biggest challenge I faced this week:

I pretty much have the same challenge every week: keep the kids alive and entertained and still make time to write :).

Glad to see you joined! I loved the movie of Howl’s Moving Castle. Best of luck this week keeping your kids busy so you can focus on your writing 🙂

Awesome excerpt, especially the last line! For someone busy keeping kids alive and entertained (that takes 150% of a mom’s time), you manage to get a lot done. Have a great week.

lol at your goal to keep the kids alive and entertained — that’s my number one goal these days, too 🙂 I’ve heard great things about Howl’s Moving Castle!

Dude…we’re the same person. It’s just a fact!

I love that challenge – keeping the kids alive and entertained and finding time to write – that’s me too (except I wrote the longer version).

I am a HUGE fan of historical fantasy, so I will be visiting you again for more news about your book for sure!

Yay for Howl’s Moving Castle! Did you know she has a second book set in that world? I’ve been wanting to read it for awhile. Anyway, good luck this week!
